McLean High School senior basketball player Kara Bremser was chosen as the 2022-23 Player of the Year in the 6D North Region.

Kara Bremser earned another big basketball honor when the McLean Highlanders’ senior guard/forward was chosen as the girls 6D North Region high-school player of the year for the 2022-23 season.

Previously, Bremser was chosen as the 2022-23 Liberty District Player of the Year.

Bremser helped McLean (18-8) win the Liberty District tournament championship this season, which gave the team a 12-game winning streak at the time.

In those 26 contests, Bremser made 71 three-pointers for the second straight campaign, including a personal and single-game and team best eight. She finished her career with 176 threes, the most all-time in team history.

Bremser’s 876 career points ranks fourth in program history. She likely would have reached the1,000-point milestone had her sophomore season not been significantly shortened because of COVID. Her 361 points in a single season ranks fourth all-time.

Bremser’s single-game career scoring highs for McLean were 31 and 33 points.

In her final game for McLean, a first-round loss to Centreville in the region tournament, Bremser made four three-pointers and scored 14 points. Tatum Olson also scored 14 points in the loss for McLean and made three three-pointers, adding six rebounds.

NOTES: McLean Highlanders head girls coach Jen Sobota was chosen as the 2022-23 region Coach of the Year and senior guard Shushan Krikorian was chosen to the first team along with Kara Bremser . . . Next winter, Bremser will play for the Division II Assumption College women’s basketball team.
