Flooding could be biggest local challenge when Debby hits

Slow-moving storm could dump inch upon inch of precipitation on Northern Virginia

The biggest impact to Northern Virginia of what ultimately remains of Tropical Storm Debby late in the week will be the risk of flooding.

The slow-moving storm is expected to drop multiple inches of rain on the local region starting Thursday [8/8] before pulling away by Saturday morning.

And that could mean challenges both for low-lying areas and those spots with poor drainage, according to the GazetteLeader’s official weather partner, AccuWeather.

On the other hand, the rainfall is likely to make up for a deficit that recently resulted in regional officials calling for judicious use of water, lest the need for drought restrictions be implemented.
