Police: Suspect picks up abduction, assault, robbery charges

On Sept. 8 at 4:18 a.m., a man and a woman known to each other were inside a building in the 2000 block of Richmond Highway when they became involved in a verbal dispute, Arlington police said.

The incident escalated, and the male suspect allegedly assaulted the victim, brandished a firearm and made threatening statements, police said.

The suspect then stole the victim’s phone and prevented her from leaving a room, police said.

The victim subsequently was able to leave the room and seek assistance. Outside the building, the victim attempted to retrieve her phone from the suspect. He allegedly hit her, causing a laceration, police said. 

The suspect then fled the scene on foot. 

A lookout was broadcast and responding officers located and detained the suspect in the 2200 block of South Eads Street. The suspect – 39-year-old Aaron Worrell of Portsmouth – was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, robbery, abduction, brandishing, use of a firearm during commission of a felony and possession of a firearm.

The victim sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening and did not require medical attention, police said. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
