McLean tax district voters in mid-May chose five candidates to serve on the McLean Community Center’s Governing Board.

This year’s election winners, chosen via absentee voting from March 15 through May 17 and in-person ballot-casting May 20 at McLean Day, received the formal blessing of the Board of Supervisors May 23.

Five adult candidates sought three adult seats on the board. The winners – Kathleen Cooney Porter, Gloria Marrero Chambers and Katie Gorka – respectively earned 1,047, 729 and 629 votes. Voters in the adult election also cast 582 votes for Matt Colsia, 500 for Lincom Thillaichidambaram and 18 write-in ballots.

Tax-district voters also selected two youth candidates, who will serve one-year terms on the Governing Board.

In the McLean High School boundary area, Eleanor Ague ran away with the contest by earning 103 votes. Also in the mix were Philip Rotondo (32 votes), Rafik Hanna (28), and Katy Perez (21). Voters cast 3 write-in ballots in that race.

For the Langley High School boundary area, Sophia Bruno emerged the clear winner with 111 votes. Voters also cast 37 votes for Charlotte Loving, 14 for Cabot Fisher, 12 for Sonya Thott, 8 for Ethan Pwu and 5 for Duy (Mikey) Nguyen, as well as 3 write-in ballots.

Youth candidates had to reside within the boundary areas of McLean and Langley high schools, but did not need to attend those schools.

Overall, voters cast 1,473 ballots, including 1,130 absentee votes and 343 in person on McLean Day. There were a total of 1,263 votes cast in the adult race (987 absentee and 276 on McLean Day) and 210 votes in the youth contest (143 absentee, 67 in person).

The outgoing Governing Board’s final meeting will be held June 7 at 6:30 p.m. and be followed immediately by the incoming board’s first meeting at 7:30 p.m., when the newly elected board members will be sworn in.
