Potomac School falls in season opener at Norfolk Academy

The Potomac School Panthers lost their opening game of the football season to host Norfolk Academy, 23-6, the night of Aug. 30.

The Panthers gained just 87 total yards in the high-school contest. Quarterback Sean Sutherland passed for 85, with Lucas Boulter having four catches for 17 yards and Akim Iscandari three for 59. Jake Adamec and Brendan Sutherland each had one catch. Boulter had 16 yards rushing.

E.J. Schneeberg scored the team’s touchdown on a short fumble return late in the game. He made four tackles with four assists.

Also on defense, Gus Tierney had four tackles for losses, Jag Gioia had two and Richard Perry made six tackles, with one for a loss. Iscandari had an interception. Adamec, Mack Repke and Nathan Alexander (fumble recovery) were other tackling leaders.

The Panthers trailed 7-0 at halftime.

“We played tough. Norfolk had huge imposing size on the lines with impressive running,” Potomac School coach Dan Wolff said.

The Panthers play their home opener on Friday, Sept. 6 at 4:30 p.m. against St. John’s Catholic Prep of Maryland. The Vikings lost their season opener to St. James of Maryland, 41-38.

NOTE: The season-opening loss was the sixth in a row for the Panthers.
