Marshall High wins big again, now stands 3-0 in football action

Undefeated rival Warhawks next up for the Statesmen

Marshall High School's Josh Paine helped the Statesmen win by another big score in Sept. 13 high-school football action.

The Marshall Statesmen improved to 3-0 for the second straight season with a third consecutive blowout victory over the visiting Justice Wolves the night of Sept. 13 in high-school football action.

Marshall won 56-14. In doing so, the Statesmen set a team record for the most points scored in the first three games of the season with 184. The old mark was 112, set last season.

Marshall has scored 79, 49 and 56 points in its three games, against teams with a combined 0-7 record.

In the win over Justice, Oscar Smith scored touchdowns on offense and defense. He caught a 35-yard scoring pass from Michael Spriggs. He returned a fumble three yards for a TD on defense.

Josh Paine caught a 77-yard TD pass from Spriggs and scored on an 88-yard kickoff return.

Ethan Lebkisher, Carter Oketunji and Sulton Nazary each had rushing scores for Marshall of 4, 42 and 12 yards, respectively. Lebkisher was the team’s leading rusher with 43 yards on 10 carries. Oketunji ran for 42, Nazary for 36, Alexandre Milbrink for 35 and Spriggs for 16, including a touchdown run. Spriggs threw only two passes, both touchdowns.

Randy Park kicked all seven extra points.

On defense for Marshall, Ignacio Gonzalez-Zunino had an interception.

Marshall next plays the 3-0 and four-time defending 6D North Region champion Madison Warhawks on the road, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in an annual neighborhood clash. Madison defeated Marshall, 27-7, last season.

The Warhawks have defeated the Statesmen 16 straight times.
