Madison quarterback Cael Yates, left, center Ari Rosenberg, middle, and runningback Dominic Knicely, rigth, are three top returners on the offense this season.

The unique thing about the week-two regular-season meeting between the Madison Warhawks and host Lake Braddock Bruins? The football teams each won region championships last fall and lost in the semifinals of the Virginia High School League’s Class 6 playoff tournament.

The teams met Sept. 6 in Burke, with Madison (2-0) winning, 36-15, behind a second straight strong defensive performance.

Madison never trailed, building a 15-0 lead and was ahead 22-8 at halftime. Check back later for more details.

The teams are expected to be region contenders again this season and possibly earn another state-playoff berth. Madison (12-2 last season) has won the last four 6D North Region playoff crowns, with Lake Braddock (1-1 this season) the defending Region C winner, finishing 11-3 last fall.

The week-two regular-season meeting was the fourth straight for the non-district squads. Madison won big in Vienna, 31-7, last fall. Host Lake Braddock finished on top, 34-31, in 2022, with Madison earning a 49-21 victory in 2021.

In week-one regular-season games this year, each won big. Madison shut out Stone Bridge, 17-0, and Lake Braddock blew out Colgan on the road, 64-20.

Lake Braddock gained 359 total yards in its victory, a good balance of passing and running.
