Fairfax County supervisors on Sept. 10 unanimously approved a request by Westpark Corporate Center LLC to increase the height of its building at 8484 Westpark Drive in Tysons.

The development’s original height limit was 125 feet, but the applicant desired to increase that by 14.1 feet to add a rooftop-amenity space.

The 4.41-acre property, located in the northwest corner of Westpark Drive and Route 7, is zoned Planned Development Commercial, which does not stipulate a maximum height. The 11.28-percent height increase does not exceed the county’s maximums of 15 feet or 15 percent of the building’s approved height, county planning staff said.

The approved increase will not cause the building’s height to exceed that of existing rooftop mechanical equipment, which is excluded from the county’s maximum-height calculations, staff said.

A viewshed study showed the rooftop-amenity space would not be visible to pedestrians on public sidewalks along Route 7 or Westpark Drive, they added.

Supervisor Dalia Palchik (D-Providence), who moved to approve the request, agreed with county staff that “not only will it not impede the views or be detrimental, it’ll be a great asset and benefit.”
