Arlington County government 55+ programs are held indoors at 55+ Centers unless otherwise noted. A membership (starting at $20 annually) is required to participate.

Arlington government 55+ centers will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day.

• Arlington Mill 55+ Center will host its monthly social, with a patriotic theme this month, on Monday, July 1 at 1 p.m. [Registration #914801-02]

• Scott Hill of the National Park Service will discuss the Lyndon B. Johnson Memorial Grove during a presentation on Monday, July 1 at 1:30 p.m. at Lubber Run 55+ Center. [Registration #914400-24 for in-person, #914400-25 for online option]

• A workshop for “absolute beginners” about pickleball will be presented on Monday, July 1 at 10 a.m. at Walter Reed 55+ Center. Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and discuss the sport. [Drop-in; no registration required]

• Madison Community Center hosts games of chess for those of all skill levels on Monday, July 1 from 9:20 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. [Drop-in; no registration required]

• An introduction to the ukulele led by Sandy O’Shea will be presented on Tuesday, July 2 at 4 p.m. at Walter Reed 55+ Center. No experience is required. [Registration #914304-03]

Croquet games for beginners on up will be offered on Tuesday, July 2 and Friday, July 5 from 10 a.m. to noon each day at Walter Reed 55+ Center. Equipment is provided. [Drop-in; no registration required]

• The 55+ Travel group will head to Norfolk for a visit to the Chrysler Museum of Art on Tuesday, July 2. The cost is $86 for Arlington residents, $99 for others. [Registration #902407-01]

• The basics of line-dancing will be presented on Wednesday, July 3 at 10:15 a.m. at Walter Reed 55+ Center. Partners are not required. [Drop-in; no registration required]

• The opera-appreciation group at Lubber Run 55+ Center will hear selections from Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” with professional commentary by George Cecchetti on Wednesday, July 3 at 1:30 p.m. [Registration #914300-03]

• The Arlington Spellbinders, a group of individuals telling stories and engaging  intergenerational audiences, will meet on Friday, July 5 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Langston-Brown 55+ Center. Newcomers are welcome. [Drop-in; no registration required]
