Arlington County government leaders have agreed to sign onto a friend-of-the-court brief in a gun case headed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

County Board members authorized staff to become a signatory to Garland v. VanDerStok, in which a federal judge has held that the Biden Administration overreached its authority when in 2021 the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) revised definitions within the federal Gun Control Act.

The U.S. Supreme Court in April agreed to hear the case, and has put the U.S. District Court ruling on hold until a final decision is rendered.
