County Board contender 'unwavering' in support of teetering Biden

Spain says it would be 'counterproductive and divisive' to move away from incumbent at this point

The newly anointed Democratic nominee for Arlington County Board has affirmed his commitment to President Biden despite the latter’s withering debate performance, and says local, state and federal party leaders should not hop off the Biden train as it rolls down the tracks.

“Any Democratic leader showing indecisiveness and/or straying from support would be counterproductive and divisive,” J.D. Spain Sr. wrote in a June 30 posting on X (formerly Twitter).

Spain wrote that his support for the president was "unwavering."

Spain came out of the June 18 Democratic primary as the winner following four rounds of voting. He moves on to the general election, where he will be the odds-on favorite in the race to succeed the retiring Libby Garvey.

Whether Spain will be sharing the ballot with Biden remains, at this point, an open question.
