Samuel Macura of Great Falls earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting, cum laude; Shujian Li of Great Falls earned a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry; Mason Satterfield earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration; and Sean Sunjoon Lee of Vienna earned a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa during recent commencement exercises at Washington & Lee University.

Nathaniel Manfra of Vienna earned a bachelor of arts degree in interactive media, summa cum laude, during recent commencement exercises at Clark University.

Lauren Von Elm of McLean has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Roger Williams University.

Audrey Saliba of McLean has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at the University of Scranton.

Jonathan Brinkmiller of Oakton has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at the College of New Jersey.

Ryan Fowler of McLean has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Dean College.

Ramsey Collins of Oakton has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Siena College.

Lina Cao of Great Falls has been inducted into the George Mason University chapter and Davian Harry of McLean has been inducted into the University of Maryland Global Campus chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi academic honor society.

Kyle Tang of Vienna, a graduate of South Lakes High School, was selected to participate in a summer-research project with a faculty member at Lebanon Valley College, where he is majoring in biology.

Aprameyan (Mayan) Ramanujan, a rising fifth-grader at Spring Hill Elementary School, came away with numerous awards at the National Bees and Championships Exams competition, held recently in Orlando.

In the fourth-grade competition, Mayan took home first place in the National History Bee, second in the U.S. History Bee, third in the National Geography Bee and was a semifinalist in the National Science Bee. He was the only student from Virginia to have placed in the top three in any of the four competitions.

He also won gold medals in five exams – Black American History, Ancient History, Recent History, U.S. Military History and European Geography – plus silver medals in two and bronze in four more.

• Thirty Scouts from Troop 652, sponsored by St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in McLean, recently completed a week in the woods at the Rodney Scout Reservation in Maryland.

While at camp, seven scouts from the troop advanced in rank. The troop earned a total of  86 merit badges and competed in the camp’s Iron Scout Competition, which included running, canoeing, rock-climbing and archery. Four Scouts auditioned to participate in the Closing Campfire and were selected to perform.  

Gregg Ladislaw, Kevin Coyne and Matthew Loughran were the trip’s adult advisers.
