[Update, 6/23/24:]

Gusty and perhaps dangerous thunderstorms remain a possibility for the local area this afternoon. The start of the work week is looking cooler (high 80s for daytime highs) for a few days before Wednesday again flirts with the 100-degree mark, according to AccuWeather.

Another day approaching 100 degrees is in the works for Sunday [6/23], but the forecast also includes the possibility of a different kind of nasty weather for Northern Virginia, too.

"Very hot with times of sun and clouds; a heavy thunderstorm around in the afternoon; thunderstorms can bring flooding downpours, hail and damaging wind gusts" is how the GazetteLeader's weather partner, AccuWeather, details likely conditions on Sunday.

As of 3:45 p.m. Saturday, the thermometer in the local area had not broken the 100-degree mark, but it was still the hottest day of the year so far. Temperatures are likely to peak at around 97 or 98 degrees by late afternoon.

Under AccuWeather's forecast, Monday and Tuesday will be about 10 degrees cooler than this weekend, but high 90s are again forecast for Wednesday.
