On Sept. 10 at 2:30 p.m., an officer on patrol observed a driver commit a traffic offense in the area of Park Street and Maple Avenue and initiated a traffic stop, Vienna police said.

The driver disregarded the attempt and continued traveling southbound on Glyndon Street and into a parking lot, police said.

Upon the officer’s initial interaction with the driver, signs of impairment were noted, police said. The driver then attempted to drive away from the scene, leaving the parking lot followed by police.

The driver then pulled into a nearby parking lot, failed a series of field-sobriety tests and was placed under arrest.

The 61-year-old Dumfries woman was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to obey a red traffic signal, eluding, refusal of breath test (second offense) and texting while driving.
