MAN, 33, FACING LARCENY, ASSAULT CHARGES AFTER 2 INCIDENTS IN VIENNA: At approximately 8:40 a.m. on March 11, an employee at Pazzo Pomodoro, 118 Branch Road, S.E., arrived at the restaurant and found someone had smashed the front door glass with a brick, Vienna police said.

An officer responded to ensure no one was in the store. Nothing appeared to have been taken from the restaurant.

A security camera showed the man who allegedly caused the damage was the same person arrested in a nearby petty-larceny case earlier that day, police said.

Police went to the magistrate’s office and obtained a warrant for the 33-year-old man, of no fixed address, charging him with destruction of property. Police served the warrant to the man at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was being held on account of the previous incident.

During that other incident, which occurred at 7-Eleven, 427 Maple Ave., E., an employee at 5:25 a.m. reported that the man allegedly took two cans of beer and attempted to leave the store. When the employee confronted him, the man allegedly assaulted him and left the store without paying. An officer located the man at the bus stop in the 500 block of Maple Avenue, E., and arrested him.

In connection with that incident, the man faces charges of petty larceny, assault and being drunk in public. The suspect is being held without bond.

VIENNA POLICE ARREST WOMAN, 38, ON DWI, DRUG-POSSESSION CHARGES: A Vienna police officer on March 12 at 12:26 a.m. reportedly observed a driver commit a traffic offense near Nutley Street and Kingsley Road, S.W.

Upon interacting with the driver, police allegedly detected signs of intoxication.

According to police, the officer determined the driver’s license privilege had been suspended, she had cocaine in her possession and Vienna police had an active capias warrant out for her.

After the driver reportedly failed to complete a series of field-sobriety tests, police arrested the 38-year-old Falls Church woman and took her to the Vienna Police Station, where she provided a sample of her breath for analysis.

Police then transported her to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where she was charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance and driving on a suspended license.

Authorities also served her with the warrant charging her with failure to appear in court on a charge of driving on a suspended license.

VIENNA POLICE CITE 4 JUVENILES ON MULTIPLE CHARGES FOLLOWING TRAFFIC STOP: A Vienna police officer on March 10 at 4:27 p.m. reportedly observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the 500 block of Maple Avenue, W., and initiated a traffic stop.

Upon interacting with the four juvenile occupants, the officer reportedly detected a strong odor of alcohol and observed open containers of alcohol in the vehicle, police said.

Police notified the parents of the three passengers and they came to the scene. Police issued each passenger a summons charging underage alcohol possession and cited one of the passengers with underage tobacco possession. Police released them to the custody of their parents.

Police took the driver to the Vienna Police Station, where he was offered the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis, but refused. The officer notified the juvenile’s parents and they came to the station.

In addition to traffic charges, authorities have charged the juvenile with underage alcohol possession, drinking while operating a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated  while under 21 years of age and refusal to provide a breath sample. He also was released to his parents’ custody.

N.Y. MAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGED FRAUDULENT TRANSACTION ATTEMPT IN VIENNA: An employee at Northwest Federal Credit Union, 231 Maple Ave., E., told Vienna police on March 8 at 11:40 a.m. that a man had entered the bank and allegedly tried to withdraw money fraudulently from an account using another person’s identification.

The suspect allegedly provided false information to the officer trying to identify him, police said.

Police arrested the 56-year-old man from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities charged him with identity theft, obtaining money by false pretenses, possession of fake identification and providing false identification to law enforcement.

Authorities are holding the man without bond.

VIENNA MAN TAKEN IN FEDERAL-GOVERNMENT SCAM: A resident living in the 900 block of Echols Street, S.E., told Vienna police that sometime since Nov. 2 last year he had received a phone call from a woman claiming to be with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, who told him he was the subject of a federal investigation and would need to pay to avoid prosecution.

The resident made multiple payments before he realized it was a scam, police said.

This case will be investigated by federal authorities.

VIENNA RESIDENT DEFRAUDED WHILE TRYING TO SELL TABLE ONLINE: A resident living in the 1000 block of Mountfort Court, S.W., informed Vienna police that between Feb. 18 at 7:37 p.m. and March 1 at 3:30 p.m. he had tried to sell a table online through OfferUp when he was defrauded by someone claiming to be interested in purchasing the table.

VIENNA RESIDENT REPORTS SOMEONE STOLE A BICYCLE DELIVERED TO HIS PORCH: On March 13, a resident living in the 1100 block of Maple Ave., E., told Vienna police that on Feb. 27 between 3:07 and 5 p.m. someone had stolen from his porch a UPS delivery containing a bicycle.

VIENNA POLICE CITE 2 TRUCK DRIVERS FOR ALLEGED NOISE VIOLATIONS: Vienna police in recent days have cited two truck drivers for allegedly performing their work earlier and later than the town’s noise ordinance allows.

On March 8 at 11:33 p.m., an officer responded to a noise complaint regarding a delivery truck being unloaded after hours at Starbucks, 362 Maple Avenue, E. Police issued a summons to the 34-year-old man from College Park, Md., charging him with violating the noise ordinance.

On March 9 at 4:56 a.m., an officer responding to a reported noise violation found a garbage truck emptying a dumpster in the 200 block of Maple Avenue, W., police said.

The officer issued a summons to the truck driver, a 38-year-old man from Temple Hills, Md., charging him with violating the noise ordinance.

Police released both men on their signatures.

VIENNA POLICE INVESTIGATE 2 PURSE THEFTS FROM CARS AT FITNESS CENTERS: Vienna police recently investigated two reported two early morning purse thefts from vehicles on the same day at different fitness centers.

A local resident told town police that on March 11 between 4:50 and 5:50 a.m. she had parked her vehicle in the parking lot at CrossFit 434 Mill Street, N.E. When she returned to the vehicle, she found someone had stolen her purse, police said.

Another resident informed Vienna police that, on March 11 between 5:00 a.m. and 5:55 a.m., she had left her vehicle locked in the parking lot at  Orangetheory Fitness, 127 Maple Ave., W. When she returned to the vehicle, she found someone had broken the rear window on the driver’s side and stolen her purse.

MAN REPORTS THEFT OF CELL PHONE, MONEY CLIP AT VIENNA RESTAURANT: A man told Vienna police on March 11 at 8:05 a.m. that he had left his cell phone and money clip on a table at Panera Bread, 136 Maple Ave., W.,  while he went to the counter to get his order.

His property was missing when he returned to the table, he told police.

VIENNA DRUGSTORE EMPLOYEE REPORTS DEBIT CARDS STOLEN FROM HIS COAT: An employee at CVS, 337 Maple Ave., E., informed Vienna police that on March 12 between 2 and 9 p.m. someone had stolen his debit cards from his coat, which he had left in the employee break room.

He later discovered an unauthorized transaction on one of the cards, police said.

FAIR WARNING: FAIRFAX COUNTY POLICE ANNOUNCE 2024 SOBRIETY CHECKPOINTS: Don’t say you weren’t warned. The Fairfax County Police Department will be conducting sobriety checkpoints around the county throughout the year  to identify and remove impaired drivers from local roadways.

The checkpoints, hosted by the department’s dedicated Driving Under the Influence squad and district stations, will occur between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. on:

• March 22 at Annandale Road and Walnut Hill Lane.

• April 13 at Little River Turnpike and Woodland Road.

• April 20 at Arlington Boulevard and Graham Road.

• May 3 at Telegraph and Franconia roads.

• May 17 at Richmond Highway and Jeff Todd Way.

• May 25 at Ox and Clara Barton roads.

• June 1 at Route 50 and Rugby Road.

• June 7 at Richmond Highway and Furnace Road.

• June 28 at eastbound Leesburg Pike and Fairfax County Parkway.

• July 6 at Braddock and Ox roads.

• July 12 at Burke Lake Road in front of Lake Braddock High School.

• Aug. 3 at Little River Turnpike and Minor Lane.
