The end of this week may prove a rerun of its beginning, as another modest winter storm is beginning to shape up.

The GazetteLeader's weather partner, AccuWeather, is forecasting 1 to 3 inches of snow to fall across Northern Virginia on Friday. That seems to be in line with similar prognostications.

That's also the forecast that had been in place for yesterday [Jan. 15] into today. That storm outperformed expectations, dropping 5 or so inches in some (but not all) spots in the region.

The recent cold snap is expected to continue, with lows bottoming out in the Jan. 16-17 overnight at 13 degrees and not getting above the freezing mark on Jan. 17. Thursday and Friday should see slightly more warmth, but the deep freeze returns on Saturday.

Some good news for those who don't like frigid temperatures: It could be in the upper 40s to mid 50s next week. Almost beach weather by comparison!
