For a fifth straight season, the Yorktown Patriots finished second to the Langley Saxons in the Liberty District golf tournament.

This fall, the Patriots carded a 308-309–617 team score in the 36-hole high-school event held at the Herndon Centennial Golf Course. Langley shot 287-296–583 over the two days on Sept. 19 and 20.

With another runner-up finish, Yorktown earned a berth to play in the 36-hole 6D North Region tourney for a fifth time in a row.

The region tournament is at Bristow Manor Golf Club.

“We had hoped to be closer after the first round, but Langley really shot a great score that first day and put us all way behind,” Yorktown coach Chris Williams said.

Yorktown senior Charlie Lamb shot 72-76–148 to post the team’s lowest score and finish fifth individually, eight shots behind winner Alina Ho of Langley. Junior Nick Senkus shot 82-74–156 for Yorktown, junior Jack Freeman 73-85–158, junior Luke Sanne 81-79–160, sophomore Ryan Pericak 85-80–165 and senior Taylor Mitchell 90-82–172.

“Our team scores were consistent but our individual scores were not,” Williams said.  “We graduated five of our top six players from last season, but I think we have more depth this year. We can score better at the region.”

One of Yorktown’s goals in the second round of the district was to stay ahead of the McLean Highlanders, who finished third at 311-311–622.

Finn Watson for the Washington-Liberty Generals shot 73-72–145 to finish third individually and advance to the region. He helped W-L place fourth with a 331-327–658 total.

James Hall shot 86-85–171 for the Generals, Patterson Brown 86-86–172, Colin Hanley 90-84–174, Emmett Spence 87-89–176 and Luke Holland 86-90–176.

Leading the sixth-place Wakefield Warriors (329-339–668) was Beckett Hampton with an 81-82–163. He qualified individually to play in the region tourney, as did his teammate Andrew Middleton at 83-83–166.

Ari Liebann shot 83-84–167 for Wakefield, Miles Maravilla 82-91–173 and Sophia Sadler 87-90–177.
