In the lowest scoring game in the 13-team 6D North Region so far this season, the Yorktown Patriots lost to the host McLean Highlanders, 7-3, in Liberty District high school football action Oct. 6.

Yorktown (4-3, 1-2) led 3-0 for most of the game on a 29-yard first-quarter field goal by Max Yoon. McLean scored the winning touchdown, following by an extra point, with 33 seconds to play.

“That was a real tough loss, one of the toughest we’ve had here,” Yorktown coach Bruce Hanson said. “We had some other chances to score, but didn’t and that cost us.”

Yorktown drove into McLean territory on its first three possessions of the second half, but penalties and an incomplete pass stalled those drives, forcing punts.

Coby Casalengo led Yorktown in rushing with 56 yards. The Patriots gained just 88 yards rushing. Quarterbacks Drew Morgan and Hudson Greene combined to pass for 137 yards. Greene threw for 115. Finn Luca had one catch for 60 yards, Chris Montecino three for 18 and Owen Woodward two for 23.

Yorktown did not turn the ball over.

On defense for Yorktown, Jackson Freeman-Moore had a sack and Van Tranfa a tackle for a loss.

In the first half, Yorktown’s defense held McLean without a first down on its first four possessions.
