With shutout victory, W-L football team remains undefeated

Start is the Generals' best since the 1971 campaign

The Washington-Liberty Generals are enjoying a 5-0 start to the high-school football season, their best since 1971.

With their biggest margin of victory so far this season and their first shutout, the Washington-Liberty Generals improved to 5-0 for the first time since the 1971 high-school football season.

The host Generals did so by blanking the Falls Church Jaguars, 44-0, Sept. 22 in a non-district game.

For Washington-Liberty, the single-game point total was its fourth over 40 this fall.

The Generals took control early, leading 38-0 at halftime.

Runningback Anthony Louis rushed for 30 yards and two touchdowns, as six different players ran the ball for the Generals.

Jon Bhojwani led the W-L passing attack, going 13 of 22 for 256 yards and he threw four touchdown passes. Matthew Abramson was 2 of 4 for three yards.

Jackson Nowinski caught four passes for 156 yards and three TDs. Joseph Cordaro had one catch for a 10-yard touchdown reception. Jonathan Malatesta had four catches for 20 yards, Louis three for 62 and Michael Barber two for six. Zach Meehan had one catch.

On special teams, Nowinski had one kickoff return for 30 yards. Marcelo Carrasquillo kicked five extra points and made one field goal.

The Generals’ tackling leaders on defense were William Clarke, Ben Hughes and Sean Guffey. Hughes had two tackles for losses and Connor Hurren had an interception.

Falls Church had just 48 total yards, including minus one passing.
