The Bishop O’Connell Knights (3-5, 0-2) started third-string quarterback Max Stovall against the host Carroll Lions, then had to play a fourth stringer later in the Oct. 21 high-school football game in Washington Catholic Athletic Conference action.

The Knights lost, 13-3. Carroll returned the game's opening kickoff for a touchdown and O'Connell on one possession had the ball at the Carroll one-yard line and did not score.

O'Connell's first two signal callers, starter Jonathan Nguyen and backup Henry Behrens, are sidelined with leg injuries. Before game's end, Stovall left with an injury and the Knights had to play fourth-stringer Mark Sirianni, who just recently joined the team. He completed some passes of 20 yards and longer to Frank Johnson and Aidan Joseph. Aidan Munroe also had a catch.

O'Connell had 109 yards passing.

The Knights' points came on a 32-yard field goal by Tyler Fontenot.

Nathan Harrison led the O'Connell defense with many tackles and Zach Harrison recovered a fumble and Eoin Meadwos had an interception. Also on defense, O’Connell was without injured starting linebacker Kellen McConnell and, on offense, was missing an injured starting tackle on offense.

Stovall was 17 of 26 for 160 and threw a couple of unlucky interceptions in the Knights' prior game before facing Carroll. Zach Harrison caught six passes in the loss for 90 yards,Johnson four for 44 and Joseph four for 41.
