A total of 21 Arlington Public Schools students received national honors in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, which for 101 years has saluted student achievement across the spectrum of arts endeavors.

Hannah Bigley of Yorktown High School received an American Visions Medal (the highest honor) and was named a Gold Medal recipient. Lia Musser (Yorktown),  Allen Ballard (Wakefield High School), Anar Gantulga (Wakefield) and Niyah Wertz (Wakefield) were named Gold Medal recipients.

Other Arlington students received Silver Medal and honorable-mention awards.

As part of the competition, teens in grades 7-12 can submit entries in 29 categories of art and writing for the chance to earn scholarships and have their works exhibited or published. During the 2023-24 school year, more than 100,000 students submitted about 260,000 entries.

Award-winning students will be honored at an online gala ceremony, and those whose works received top honors will have them exhibited at Parsons and the New School for Design in New York.
