Harry Shannon was "The Rambler" for the Washington Sunday Star newspaper from 1912 to 1927.

The Arlington Historical Society’s monthly program will look at the life and career of journalist/photographer Harry Shannon, known to readers of the Washington Sunday Star as “The Rambler” for his coverage of the local area.

The event will be held on Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m. at the Reinsch Library on the main campus of Marymount University. An online option also will be available.

Speaker Martin Suydam will discuss the life of Shannon (1869-1928), who from 1912-27 “rambled” across the local region with notepad and camera to chronicle people, places and things.

“Shannon is an historian’s treasure,” officials with the historical society said. “Reading his newspaper articles is like traveling in a time machine – you are there seeing and meeting people with first-hand accounts of history.”

The event is free. No registration is required for the in-person option; for online, registration is requested by April 10.
