USS Arlington personnel visit namesake community

Chiefs had chance to visit display at county-government center

Chiefs from the U.S. Navy’s USS Arlington recently toured the ship’s namesake community.

As part of their visit, the Navy personnel visited the USS Arlington display at the Ellen M. Bozman Government Center, which had been installed earlier this year in connection with the 10th anniversary of the ship’s commissioning.

In addition, the chiefs visited the Pentagon Memorial, Arlington County Police Department, Arlington National Cemetery, a Washington Nationals baseball game and the Marine Parade at Marine Corps Barracks Washington, where President Biden was in attendance.

They also enjoyed lunch with firefighters at Arlington Fire Station #5, where Del. Patrick Hope joined them.

The visit was arranged by the USS Arlington Community Alliance and is just one example of the efforts of the Alliance to maintain the link between the USS Arlington and 9/11 family members, first-responders and the Arlington community.

The USS Arlington – a 685-foot-long landing platform dock designed to speed supplies and U.S. Marines on humanitarian missions and to world trouble spots – was named to honor the community’s response the 2001 terrorist attacks. It was the third U.S. Navy ship in modern times to bear the name.
