On July 20 at 11:08 p.m., a man entered a store in the 4600 block of Washington Boulevard, collected merchandise and allegedly exited without payment, Arlington police said.

An employee confronted the suspect outside the business; during the incident, the suspect struck the employee before fleeing the scene on foot, police said.
The employee sustained minor injuries and was treated by medics on scene.

A lookout for the suspect was broadcast. Responding officers observed an individual matching the suspect's description in the area of North Glebe Road and 14th Street North, police said.

Officers issued commands to the individual, who was non-compliant, police said. With the assistance of additional responding officers, he was taken into custody and was transported to an area hospital for medical evaluation.

The suspect – 40-year-old Kevin Singleton of no fixed address – was arrested and charged with robbery and obstruction of justice. He was held without bond.
