Police: Man can't pay for cigarettes, so he steals them

On July 20 at 8:36 p.m., officers responded to a report of an alarm at a business in the 3600 block of Columbia Pike, Arlington police said.

Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect entered the business and attempted to pay for cigarettes, during which the transaction was unsuccessful, police said. The suspect then made threatening statements toward an employee, implied he was carrying a weapon, stole the cigarettes and exited the store without payment, police said.

No injuries were reported.

Responding officers canvassed the area for the suspect, yielding negative results. The suspect is described as a black male, 40 years old.
