On July 5 at 8:38 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of South Clark Street for a report of a man allegedly harassing and spitting on passersby, Arlington police said.

Upon arrival, officers located an individual matching the description provided by witnesses, made contact with him and determined he was drinking in public, police said.

Officers attempted to have him leave the area, but he refused, police said. As the officers attempted to place him into custody, the suspect became combative, kicked the door of a police vehicle and spat towards officers, police said.

Upon arrival at booking, the suspect refused to exit the transport vehicle and spat on an officer, police said.

With the assistance of additional officers, the suspect was brought into booking, during which he kicked, spit on and attempted to bite the officers, police said.

During the investigation, the suspect refused to identify himself, and attempts by officers to identify him were unsuccessful, police said.

The suspect was arrested, charged with assault-and-battery on law enforcement (four counts), attempted destruction of property, public drunkenness and drinking alcohol in public.

Booked as "John Doe," he was held without bond.
