Arlington County government 55+ programs are held indoors at 55+ Centers unless otherwise noted. A membership (starting at $20 annually) is required to participate.

• “Coffee or Tea and Thee,” a new program for participants to socialize and make new friends, will be offered on Monday, Sept. 23 and Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 9 a.m. at Lubber Run 55+ Center. [Drop-in; no registration required]

• Ashley Scott of the Alzheimer’s Association will discuss “10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s” on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. at Langston-Brown 55+ Center. [Registration #911500-02]

• A safety expo as part of Fall Prevention Month will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon at Lubber Run 55+ Center, hosted in partnership with VHC Health and the Northern Virginia Fall-Prevention Alliance. [Registration #911502-02]

• Richard Bell, author of “Stolen: Five Free Boys Kidnapped Into Slavery and Their Astonishing Odyssey Home” will speak on his work in an online presentation on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 1:30 p.m. [Registration #914400-15]

• Herb Bolton of the Arlington Regional Master Naturalists will discuss the diversity of bees in the local ecosystem on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. at Arlington Mill 55+ Center. [Registration #911400-41]

• A haiku-poetry workshop with poet Rick Black will be presented on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at noon at Lubber Run 55+ Center. [Registration #911300-08]

• A tree walk in the Lubber Run neighborhood, led by the county government’s urban-forest manager Vincent Verweij, will leave from Lubber Run 55+ Center on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. Participants will learn about the different species of trees in the neighborhood and their value to the community. • An eight-week walking challenge runs Sept. 25 through Nov. 13, with participants either walking on their own or joining Wednesday-evening weekly walks. [Registration #91110-19]

• Karl VanNewkirk of the Arlington Historical Society will discuss “Arlington in the 1950s” on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. at Aurora Hills 55+ Center. [Registration #911400-16]

• Gretchen Reinemeyer, Arlington’s director of elections, will discuss her office’s plans for the upcoming election during a presentation on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. at Aurora Hills 55+ Center. [Registration #911400-11]

“Tacos for Teens,” an intergenerational program of cooking tacos for the Arlington Mill Teen Program, will be presented on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 2:30 p.m. at Arlington Mill 55+ Center. [Registration #911899-07]

• An online program about the history, culture, food and people of Honduras will be presented on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. [Registration #911400-30]

• A Latin dance party to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month will be presented on Friday, Sept. 27 at 9:30 a.m. at Arlington Mill 55+ Center. Led by specialty programmer Edson Bravo, the event will cover the basics of salsa, merengue, cambia and bachata. [Registration #911899-08]
