Arlington student-thespians win CAPPIES accolades

Yorktown, Wakefield students earn honors for 2023-24 productions

Arlington Public Schools took home three statuettes at the annual CAPPIES (Critics and Awards Program) gala, held in June at the Kennedy Center.

Yorktown and Wakefield high schools were nominated for a combined 17 honors in technical, dance, musical and performance categories for their productions of “Les Misérables” (Yorktown) and “The Prom” (Wakefield). Coming away with awards were:

Ryan Schimenti was named Best Comic Actor in a Male Role for his performance in “Les Misérables.”

Bella Houston won Best Supporting Actor in a Female Role in a Musical for her  performance in “Les Misérables.”

T.J. Schultz and the Yorktown Sound Crew were honored for Best Sound.

CAPPIES is international program that recognizes, celebrates and provides learning experiences for high-school theater and journalism students. At the local level, awards for performances during the 2023-24 school year were presented in 39 categories.
