Having announced he is going to seek a full term in 2024, Arlington County Republican Committee chairman Matthew Hurtt is on the hunt for the financing to run party operations.

“My goal for 2024 is to raise $30,000 for this committee,” Hurtt said in a recent e-mail to supporters.

Fund-raising efforts for 2023 brought in about $25,000, and “I don’t think raising an additional $5,000 in a presidential year is unachievable,” he said.

Arlington Republicans will hold their first 2024 meeting on Jan. 22.

“The Arlington GOP is open to every Republican willing to build our operation,” Hurtt said. “This is not the case in every [Republican committee] in every community across the country, but I commit to you that the Arlington GOP is open to anyone who wants to advance our Republican principles.”

About a year ago, Hurtt was elected interim chair following the departure of Lori Urban, who moved to Arizona. He initially said he did not plan to seek a full term, but later changed his mind.

On the Democratic side of the ledger, incumbent party chair Steve Baker is unopposed for a new term heading into the party’s January reorganization meeting.

Unlike 2023, where the Arlington ballot featured 13 different local and state-legislative races, the 2024 ballot will be focused on federal races, although in Arlington there also will be one County Board and two School Board seats up for grabs.
