With the 2024 political year heating up in a hurry, the Arlington County Democratic Committee has precinct-captain slots to fill in about one-third of Arlington’s 54 voting precincts.

Precinct captains “are the heartbeat of the Democratic Party in Arlington – [serving] as a link between the party and their neighbors” said Sarah Lanford, chair of precinct operations for the Arlington County Democratic Committee.

“Being a precinct captain is an easy yet impactful way to ensure Democrats win and keep Virginia blue in 2024,” Lanford said.

Democrats typically have two or three captains in each of Arlington’s 54 precincts, based on size. New precinct captains are elected throughout the year, with the goal of having all slots filled in advance of that year’s general election.

In a recent e-mail to the party’s rank-and-file, Lanford noted the following available slots (while the Arlington elections office has done away with names for precincts, many people continue to use them as they frequently give a hint to the geographical location):

Arlington View (Precinct 138), Aurora Hills (103), Clarendon (114), Columbia (109), Dawson Terrace (144), Fillmore (126), Garfield Park (154), Green Valley (130), Gunston (152), Monroe (149), Navy League (141), Oakridge (132), Park Lane (118), Thrifton (120), Virginia Highlands (121), Virginia Square (140) and Yorktown (134).
