UPDATE [5/14/23]: County Board members approved the purchase at their May 13, 2023, meeting.

ORIGINAL STORY: Arlington County Board members on May 13 are slated to purchase two lots in order to expand Jennie Dean Park in the Shirlington/Green Valley area.

The parcels – at 3520 and 3522 South Four Mile Run Drive – currently contain warehouses. The agreed-upon purchase price is $2 million.

According to county staff, Arlington officials were approached by an agent for the owner of the properties (which contains a dog-boarding-and-daycare business) who plans to consolidate operations in Alexandria. The sales price is based upon an appraisal of the property.

After the deal closes, the county government plans to demolish the buildings (after salvaging any items deemed historic), a process that is expected to cost approximately $610,000.
