Tuckahoe swimmers have strong showing at divisional meet

Tigers win 11 races, placed second in eight others

The Tuckahoe Tigers added to what had already been a standout championship summer swimming season with a strong performance at the six-team postseason Division 1 divisional meet.

Tuckahoe swimmers won 11 races, placed second in eight others and were third in 12 events at the Northern Virginia Swimming League competition. The Tigers entered the meet as the 2024 Division 1 regular-season champion with a 5-0 record, as well as the winner of the league-wide all-star relay carnival and the divisional relays, otherwise the triple-crown of the NVSL.

At the July 20 divisional meet, a qualifier for the individual all-star meet, with only individual races and no relays, held at Overlee Pool in Arlington, leading Tuckahoe were double race-winners Daniel Klett and Andrew Pelaez.

Single winners were Grant Nielsen, Hugo Haggard, Isaac Bell, Hunter Zipperer, Isabella Cota-Robles, Majorie Masantone and Catherine Hughes.

Finishing second for Tuckahoe were Bell, Vittoria Passos-Androvic twice, Kailin Gorelik, Kennedy Nielsen, Bella Spignardo, Liam Laudier and Maximilian Waisberg. Third for the Tigers were Nielsen, Waisberg, Mateo Edmunds, Lucas Lopez, Danielle Hughes, Hugh McFalls, Cormac Misantone, Caroline Van Riper, Victor Rodriguez, Gabi Rodrigues, Kyle Koay and Bruno Haggard.

The Overlee Flying Fish and Donaldson Run Thunderbolts of Arlington each had eight winners at the meet, McLean’s Chesterbrook Tiger Sharks had seven and McLean’s Highlands Whomping Turtles had six winners.

Double winners for Overlee were Abigail Hartman and William Cravens. Single winners were Samantha Bravery, Sullivan Portner, Mary Pickens and Tyler Hong.

Rachel Conley was the one double-winner for Donaldson Run. Others were Charlie Greenwood, Eleanor Wertzler, Nora Sherman, Avery Wishneff, Peter Madden and Anna Eliot.

For Chesterbrook, Mara Wilson was a double-winner. Single winners were Emma Maher, Lily Wilson, Catherine Talbert, Ashley Shen and Cameron Parkhomenko.

The winners for Highlands were Gabriel Hanson, Beckett Roth, Rio Walther, Gillian Dent, Lucas Hanson and Evan Farley.
