Two players on rival teams from the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference were first-team Division I private-school all-state selections for their baseball performances during the 2024 high-school season.
Potomac School Panthers senior pitcher/first baseman Paul Witkop was chosen first team and Flint Hill Huskies school shortstop Ben Meeks was picked to the second team.
Witkop, who will play at the University of Richmond, helped lead Potomac School to the MAC conference regular season and tournament championships during the spring campaign. The Panthers were undefeated (14-0) against conference opponents and finished 19-5 overall.
Witkop batted .473 with 35 hits, 35 RBI and he scored 30 runs. His hits included four home runs and seven doubles.
In Potomac School’s one Division I state- tournament game, Witkop was 3 for 3, including two home runs and three RBI. He hit a two-run homer and a solo shot.
Witkop was the ace of the team’s staff on the mound, compiling a 6-1 record with one save, a 1.81 earned run average and he struck out 53 in 54 innings. He walked only 10 batters.
Meeks batted .435 with 30 hits, 13 RBI and he scored 21 runs and stole 27 bases. His hits included four doubles and two triples.
He helped Flint Hill finish with a 11-13 record and second to Potomac School in the MAC tournament, with a 2-1 mark.
Meeks’ production was a big reason Flint Hill bounced back well after starting the season 0-7.
Witkop and Meeks were the only two players chosen all-state from the MAC. Each also were all-MAC selections
