A number of local players in various sports have been chosen to Virginia High School League Class 6 all-state teams for their performances during the 2024 spring seasons. The lists are below.
• In baseball, making first-team was McLean Highlanders junior right-handed pitcher Alex Gonzalez and junior second baseman Ethan Ball. The two helped McLean win the Class 6 state championship this season.
Making second-team in baseball from the Madison Warhawks was junior first baseman Niko Papathanasiou and senior designated hitter Henry Novario, and from the Langley Saxons was senior outfielder Parker Whelan.
• In girls soccer, Madison Warhawks junior midfielder Hannah Harms and freshman forward Daphne Van Der Weide were chosen first-team.
Making second team were Madison senior midfielder Kyra Hartogs and for the Oakton Cougars, senior midfielder Avery Bracher, senior midfielder Isabella Yousefi and senior defender Alex Bram.
The Madison girls won the 6D North Region tournament this spring.
• In boys soccer, McLean Highlanders’ junior forward Joe Margita made first team.
Chosen second team was McLean junior forward Ada Karatepe, junior defender Will Saxon and Oakton Cougars’ senior goalie Ross Spaid.

• In girls lacrosse, Madison Warhawks’ junior defender Aubrey Counts made first team,as did Langley Saxons’ senior defender Ann Talbot.
Chosen second team from Madison were junior attack Bre McVicker and senior goalie Jessica Bae, and, from the Oakton Cougars, junior midfielder Riley Sweeney and junior defender Bailey Zimmerman.
