Oakton's long winning streak comes to an end in summer diving

Highlands and Kent Gardens teams win in Division II action

The big diving news in the second week of action in the Northern Virginia Swimming League is the two-time defending Division I  champion Oakton team lost a meet.

Oakton (1-1) fell to visiting Overlee (1-1) of Arlington, 40-32. The loss snapped Oakton’s 16-match winning streak that spanned four seasons. Oakton won the Division II title in 2021, then jumped to Division I for the following season.

Oakton’s winning divers in the loss to Overlee were Caleb McManus in intermediate boys and Thibault Lede in senior boys.

Winners for Overlee were Zachary Yen in freshman boys, Liliana Cappoli in freshmen girls, Archer Kouhestani in junior boys, McKay Deegan in junior girls, CiCi Yen in intermediate girls and Michayla Eisenberg in senior girls.

Also in Division I in week-two action, Donaldson Run improved to 2-0 with a 43-29 home victory over Old Keene Mill. Donaldson Run and Vienna Woods (2-0) are tied for first in the division. Vienna Woods topped Fairfax, 39-33.

Leading Donaldson Run in the victory were age-division winners Alex Klmek in junior girls, Jack Taylor in junior boys, Lily Klein in intermediate girls and Eli Chin-Fatt in intermediate girls.

Six Donaldson Run divers finished second.

Winning age divisions for Vienna Woods were Savannah Barry in freshman girls, Eleanor Chang in junior girls, Tyler Brown in junior boys, Payton Reed in intermediate boys and Nick Wanzer in senior boys.

In Division II action, Highlands of McLean improved to 2-0 to take over sole  possession of first place with a 37-35 win over Rolling Hills.

Age-division winners for Highlanders were Ivy Rasmussen in freshman girls, John Berik in freshman boys, Julia Paukovits in junior girls, Faustino Fredes in junior boys and Olivia Berik in intermediate girls.

Also in Division II, McLean’s Kent Gardens (1-1) defeated Sleepy Hollow Recreation, 38-34, and Arlington’s Dominion Hills (0-2) lost to Hunt Valley, 40-32.

For Kent Gardens, age-division winners were Norah Wittman in freshman girls, Lucas Moreno in junior boys, Jocelyn Brooks in senior girls and Sean Memon in senior boys.

For Dominion Hills, Zach Mathieson won in freshman boys, Helen Butler in junior girls and Ellie Joyce in senior girls.

Joyce was a freshman diver for the University of North Carolina this past college season.

In week-two meets involving other local teams, Vienna’s Dunn Loring (1-1) defeated Fairfax Station, 40-30, in Division III; Great Falls (1-1) downed McLean’s Chesterbrook (0-2), 41-25, in Division 4; Vienna’s Cardinal Hill (1-1) topped Camelot, 41-30, in Division 5; McLean’s Tuckahoe (1-1) outscored Sleepy Hollow Bath, 39-31, in Division 6; Arlington Forest (1-1) lost to North Springfield, 38-34, in Division 7; and McLean’s Hamlet fell to Pincrest, 36-22, in Division 8.
