Oakton baseball team wins three in a week, ties for second in district

Cougars allow just two runs in the three victories

Ryan Sleight helped pitch the Oakton Cougars to multiple victories in recent days.

 With some stingy pitching, the Oakton Cougars (11-4) upped their winning streak to five with three victories in baseball action last week.

Two of the wins were against Concorde District high-school rivals South Lakes, 5-1, and Westfield, 2-1. The other triumph was 6-0 over West Potomac in non-league play.

Oakton's district record improved to 4-3, tying the Cougars for second place with South Lakes and Westfield.

Against South Lakes, Noah Toole belted a three-run homer and Robbie Lavey doubled. On the mound, Tanner Vislay started and got the win in five innings of work. He struck out eight and allowed three hits.

In the win over Westfield, Lavey homered to tie the game at 1, then Thomas Huitema had the game-winning RBI. On the mound, Alex Crudder started and allowed four hits and fanned four over five innings and Ryan Sleight pitched the final two scoreless frames.

On defense, Oakton had three double plays.

Against West Potomac, Sleight (four innings, eight strikeouts) started and was the winning pitcher and Lavey and Will Thompson homered. Thompson also singled. Lavey also had an RBI single and three RBI. Jacob Bradsaw had two hits and stole two bases, Alex Rose had a sacrifice fly and Tyler Melvin singled.

Zach Danielczyk pitched the final two innings of relief.
