McLean Little League 9-11 All-Stars win state softball tourney

Team finishes 4-0 in competition with two shutouts

With a 6-0 record, the McLean Little League age 9-11 All-Stars won recent District 4 and state tournaments, dominating the competition along the way.

McLean outscored its opponents, 84-7 with two shutouts. McLean was 2-0 in the district tourney, defeating Great Falls by 12-1 and 13-2 scores.

The team was 4-0 in the state, blanking Azalea, 18-0, downing Clinch River, 12-2, shutting out Bennett’s Creek, 10-0, and routing Abington, 19-1, in the state final.

“We hit and pitched well and played good defense,” McLean manager Brad Prendergast said.

Lilly Johnsen was the starting and winning pitcher in all four state-tournament games for McLean. Johnsen pitched one game and Sarah Lazarus the other in the district tourney against Great Falls.

Other McLean players were Carmen Lackey, Evelyn Kauke, Elizabeth Peebles, Emma Masri, Lucy Orme, Reilly Lewis, Cece Cooper, Delaney Prendergast, Mackenna Galbraith, Maddie Memoli and Leenie Reed.

Lazarus and all other players produced offensively for McLean in the two tournaments.

The coaches are Jim Lazarus, R.J. Johnsen, Matt Galbraith and Leigh Lewis.

The McLean All-Stars played some other teams in warm-
up games prior to the district and state tournaments, finishing with a 2-5-1 record in those outings.

As state champions, McLean is eligible to play in the Southeast Region Tournament of State Champions in Clarksville, Tenn.
