McLean A team third in own George Pavlis golf tournament

Highlanders were one of 19 teams in the high-school event

The McLean High School golf team finished third at its own George Pavlis Invitational.

The A team for the McLean Highlanders had a strong showing with a third-place finish at their annual George Pavlis Invitational  golf tournament, posting a 320 team score in the high-school event.

With five players scoring in the 70s, the Riverside Rams of Leesburg won the 19-team tourney at Hidden Creek Country Club in Reston with a 290 total. The Independence Tigers of Ashburn finished second at 312.

Leading the McLean A team with a low round of 78 was Olivia Wood. Kyle Li and J.T. Deevy each shot 80, and Lauren Wood and Alexander Mallus had 82.

“The tournament went well and our A team did pretty good,” McLean coach and tournament director Ryan Abrams said.

The Yorktown Patriots (eighth with a 328 total), the Oakton Cougars (13th, 341), the Marshall Statesmen (16th, 355) and the McLean B Team (17th, 356) were other local squads entered.

For Yorktown, Jack Freeman and Nick Senkus shot 80, Luke Sanne 81, Austin Barbieri and Roger Allenbaugh 87.

For Oakton, Ben Shields shot 79 to lead the way and Krissh Raman had an 85.

Owen McCarton shot 79 for Marshall and Isabella Zhou 85.

For McLean B, Kevin Ren shot 81 and Nicholas Lee 84.

The overall individual champion was Timothy Yi of Centreville with a 68. Riverside’s Madison Rizzo was the low girls player with a 73. The champion Riverside team also was led by brothers Will Carlin with a 71 and John Carlin with a 72.
