Madison wins big, earns top seed in region football playoffs

Warhawks finish regular season with a 9-1 overall record

With the regular season now complete, the defending champion Madison Warhawks, led by head coach Justin Counts, will be the top seed in the 6D North Region tournament.

The defending champion Madison Warhawks (9-1, 4-1) finished second in the Concorde District, ending their regular season with a 38-0 road victory over the Centreville Wildcats in a league high-school football game Nov. 3.

Madison, though, will be the top seed in the eight-team 6D North Region tournament, hosting a first-round game against the No. 8 seed Langley Saxons (5-5). The Warhawks are the defending region champions.

Leading Madison in the win over Centreville was a balanced offensive attack, with runningback Cole DeSimone running for 78 yards and a touchdown, Dominic Knicely for 55 and a score, and Jack Ricciardiello for 51 and a TD. 

Quarterback Cael Yates was 7 of 14 passing for 124 yards and threw a 57-yard scoring pass to Knicely, who caught three passes for 72 yards, and a 17-yard touchdown pass to Evan Barry (two catches). Anthony Roman also caught two passes. Yates ran for 27 yards.

Danika Pfleghardt kicked five extra points.

On defense for Madison, Luke Jarvis had a sack, Jack Ambruzs and Vann Pappas had tackles for losses and Darren Knicely was in on multiple tackles.
