Local divers win or place high at NVSL all-star competition

Six finish on top of their age groups

John Berik of Highlands Swim Club won the 10-under freshman boys division at the Northern Virginia Swimming League's individual all-star diving meet.

Six local divers from the GazetteLeader‘s coverage areas won their age groups at the recent Northern Virginia Swimming League’s season-ending individual all-star diving meet at Hunt Valley pool in Springfield.

The champion at the oldest division was Michayla Eisenberg of Arlington’s Overlee pool. She won the senior girls event with a 218.7 point total, completing an undefeated season in NVSL competition this summer.

Eisenberg finished in front of runner-up Jocelyn Brooks of McLean’s Kent Gardens, with a 209.8 score. Kent Garden’s Ziya Bhasin was fourth (181.1).

Winners in the intermediate age groups were Overlee’s Cecilia Yen (girls, 154.0) and Vienna Woods’ Peyton Reed (boys, 177.55).

Also from Vienna Woods, Eleanor Chang won junior girls (104.2) and from Highlands Faustine Fredes was first in junior boys (131.45).

Highlands’ other winner was John Berik in freshman boys (84.3).

Placing second was Vienna Woods’ Ivor Brown in senior boys (249.7).

Third were Alan Fu of McLean’s Hamlet in intermediate boys (153.55) along with Savannah Barry of Vienna Woods in freshman girls (74.35).

Fourth were Oakton’s Tyler Kroopnick in freshman boys (69.73), Alexandra Klimek of Arlington’s Donaldson Run in junior girls (100.8), Alexander Stewart of Arlington Forest in junior boys (86.95), Highlands’ Olivia Berik in intermediate girls (122.05), Charles Morrison of Arlington’s Dominion Hills in intermediate boys (134.65) and Vienna Woods’ Nicholas Wanzer in senior boys (223.7).

Oakton’s Sophia Blanco was fifth in freshman girls (70.15).
