Victories by senior athletes Junior Allen and Blake Thompson highlighted performances by local participants at the recent Virginia High School League’s Class 6 girls and boys track and field state championship meet in Newport News.
Oakton High’s Allen won the boys 1,600 meters in 4:14.74. He also was second in the 3,200 (9:05.75) and ran on Oakton’s third-place 4x800 relay.
Langley High’s Thompson won the boys discus at 162-feet, 11-inches and was ninth in the shot put (49-11).

Also at the boys meet, Oakton’s Logan Ecton was fourth in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the 300 hurdles, McLean’s was Liam Riley fourth in the 800, Madison’s Dominic Knicely was fourth in the 100 and McLean’s 4x800 relay was eighth.
The Oakton boys were sixth in the team standings.
In the girls meet, Langley’s Alexandra DeLong was fifth in the high jump and 10th in the long jump, Madison’s Kiki Van Der Weide was fifth in the 800, Marshall’s Jada Patrick was sixth in the shot with teammate Adrianna Haggerty Graham eighth in that event, Madison’s Mia Romer was eighth in the 300 hurdles and Oakton’s Aurora Ayala was eighth in the pole vault.
