As many as eight local diving teams in the GazetteLeader’s coverage areas are in position to win division championships entering the final week of action in the Northern Virginia Swimming League.
Three are in Division I, where Arlington’s Donaldson Run, Oakton and Vienna Woods are tied for first with 3-1 records. Donaldson Run and Vienna Woods meet in their final action, while Oakton faces Fairfax.
In Division II, Highlands of McLean is alone in first place and will finish that way with one last victory. If Highlands loses and Kent Gardens (3-1) of McLean wins, the neighborhood rivals will tie for first.
Arlington Forest is in a three-way tie for first in Division VII with a 3-1 record. The team can finish no better than tying for first, because the two other squads with 3-1 marks meet in the final meet.
In Division VIII, Hamlet of McLean (3-1) needs a win for any chance to tie for first.
In a nail-biting Division I meet July 9, Oakton edged Vienna Woods, 37-35. Donaldson Run defeated Arlington rival Overlee, 45-27, that same night to create the three-way tie for first.
For Oakton in the win, Sophia Blanco and Tyler Kroopnick securing second and first place, respectively, in the freshman divisions. The freshman boys swept the podium, with Gabe Wilson and Graham Smith taking second and third.
Oakton’s Simone Wilson and Lauren Emerick were second and third in the junior girls division. In junior boys, Oakton’s Timmy Van Haute and Jameson Ham were second and third, respectively.
Oakton’s Charlotte Henderson dominated the intermediate girls division, while her sister, Ella Henderson, was third. Colby Rewas third in intermediate boys.
Isabelle Whang led the senior girls with a win, followed by Kayla Knight in second. Brendan Doe was third in senior boys.
Age-division winners for Vienna Woods were Savannah Barry (freshman girls), Tyler Brown (junior boys), Eleanor Chang (junior girls), Peyton Reed (intermediate boys) and Nick Wanzer) senior boys.
Winning their age division for Donaldson Run in July 9 action were Callie Moriarty (freshman girls), Will McCook (freshman boys), Eli Chin-Fatt (intermediate boys) and Jack Bowman (senior boys).
Winners for Highlands in its week-four victory were Ivy Rasmussen (freshman girls), John Berik (freshman boys), Julie Paukovits (junior girls), Faustino Fredes (junior boys), Olivia Berik (intermediate girls) and Trent Hooton (senior boys).
For Arlington Forest, winners were Mia Harbeck (freshman girls), Connor Bergen (freshman boys), Campbell Black (junior girls) Alexander Stewart (junior boys) and Claire Polsinelli (intermediate girls).
