Kennedy Masten of the Hamlet Green Feet broke the same Northern Virginia Swimming League record twice this season.
She set the first new mark of 30.02 seconds in the girls age 11-12 backstroke on June 15 in the first week of the regular season for the McLean pool. That time bettered the mark of 30.06 set by Janet Hu of Mosby Woods back in 2008.
Hu eventually became a standout swimmer for the Oakton High School team, then same in college at Stanford University.
Then, in the final regular-season meet, Masten finished the race a bit faster in 29.96 to break what was her own record.
Masten did not improve that record in the recent Division 3 divisional meet or at the season-ending NVSL all-star competition.
During the regular season, Masten won multiple races for Hamlet and swam on relays. She also won two races at the NVSL all-star meet.
