As part of its Liberty Amendments Month celebrations, the Vienna town government (joined by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) will host a naturalization ceremony Saturday, June 29 at 5 p.m. at the Vienna Community Center.

Fifteen people are slated to become American citizens at the event, which is open to the public.

“This ceremony is so inspiring and reminds those who are native-born Americans of the freedoms and liberties the U.S. Constitution grants to all U.S. citizens – freedoms that are not enjoyed by citizens of other nations,” said Lily Widman, event coordinator for the Vienna Parks and Recreation Department.

The occasion will mark the second time Vienna officials have hosted a naturalization ceremony as part of Liberty Amendments Month. In the summer of 2022, people from Canada to Congo became naturalized citizens.

“It’s an honor and a privilege for the town to work with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to hold this special ceremony during Liberty Amendments Month, and I know this year’s event will be just as inspiring and heartfelt as the inaugural event in 2022,” Widman said.

This year’s ceremony will feature Girl Scout Troops 50157 and 1489 as they present the colors and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Remarks will be made by Vienna Mayor Linda Colbert, U.S. Trade and Development director Enoh Ebong and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Washington Field Office acting director Juan Wood.

Liberty Amendments Month is an annual series of events held in Vienna in June and July, celebrating the 13th, 14th, 15th and 19th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution. For information, see the Website at www.viennava.gov/liberty.
