The Fairfax County chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will be joined by other organizations in commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party on Saturday, Dec. 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Freeman Store and Museum, 131 Church St., N.E., in Vienna.

Highlights will include re-enactors, a color guard, the reading of a Vienna Town Council resolution and period refreshments. Events are designed for all ages.

On Dec. 16, 1773, American colonists led by the Sons of Liberty boarded ships in Boston and threw chests of Chinese tea overboard in protest of taxation policies of the British government. The event, and the harsh response by the British through the 1774 Intolerable Acts, was seen in retrospect as a key precursor of the American Revolution.
