Spring Hill student garners national history, geography crowns

Aprameyan (Mayan) Ramanujan, a rising fifth-grader at Spring Hill Elementary School, came away with numerous awards at the National Bees and Championship Exams competition, held recently in Orlando.

In the fourth-grade competition, Mayan took home first place in the National History Bee, second in the U.S. History Bee, third in the National Geography Bee and was a semifinalist in the National Science Bee. He was the only student from Virginia to have placed in the top three in any of the four competitions.

He also won gold medals in five exams – Black American History, Ancient History, Recent History, U.S. Military History and European Geography – plus silver medals in two and bronze in four more.
