Virginia State Police troopers are investigating an Aug. 23 single-vehicle crash in the Vienna area that killed a 23-year-old Fredericksburg man.

The accident occurred at 7:51 a.m. on westbound Interstate 66 near the highway’s intersection with Interstate 495.

The victim, identified as Devin G. Stewart, was driving a construction vehicle west in the left general-purpose lane on Interstate 66 when the vehicle crossed through the traffic bollards and into the Interstate 66 Express Lanes.

The vehicle struck a guardrail and a Jersey wall, then flipped on its side and caught fire. The fire also damaged nearby equipment for the EZ Pass system, state police said.

Stewart died at the scene, said state police, who continue to investigate the crash.
