Voter turnout in Fairfax County was about 9 percent of eligible voters as of 3:30 p.m., according to county election officials.

Those voters were split approximately in half between those who cast ballots early and those who turned up at the polls today.

Voters have until 7 p.m. to cast ballots. On the Democratic primary ballot are a host of Board of Supervisors and legislative races plus the hot-button race for commonwealth's attorney and race for sheriff. There are no Republican primaries in Fairfax County this year.

In most cases, winners of the Democratic primary will be the odds-on favorites in November's general election.
