Driver cited for April incident that badly hurt pedestrian

Victim was transported to hospital for treatment of critical injuries after Church St. event

Vienna police have cited a driver who allegedly struck and badly injured a pedestrian at Church and East streets, N.E., on April 24.

The pedestrian was walking southbound in the crosswalk on Church Street at 6:40 p.m. that day when the motorist, who was driving northbound on East Street, N.E., turned left onto Church Street and the vehicle struck the pedestrian, police said.

Rescue personnel transported the pedestrian to an area hospital for treatment of critical injuries. Vienna issued the driver, who was not identified in the police report, a summons June 13 charging failure to yield to a pedestrian.
