With autumn on the way, the hours of possible daylight across Northern Virginia continue to shrink.

Today's sunrise was 6:55 a.m. and sunset was 7:10 a.m., making for 12 hours and 15 minutes of daylight in Northern Virginia, according to the GazetteLeader's official weather partner, AccuWeather.

That will continue to contract through late December, when it begins to tick up again to its annual cyclical peak in June 2025.

Local residents probably will see a good deal of daylight on Friday [9/20], but the weekend could be rainy, AccuWeather says.
